High School Program | Early Bird Special | Discover Wiesbaden | Star Award | Students' Corner

Dear Friend

Have a desire for new challenges? The High School Program offers youth between the ages of 15 and 17 the opportunity to collect intensive international experience at an early age and to get to know a different culture. Many find it so enjoyable living in Germany that they later decide to continue their studies at a German university.

Depending upon their age and German skill level, participants are placed in a 9th -11th grade class at a public Realschule (high school) or Gymnasium (college preparatory school), where they participate in regular daily classes. As a exchange student, however, they are not allowed to complete the Abitur (final exam). If the participant would like to take this exam, it is possible to attend a private Gymnasium.

In order to participate in the High School Program, applicants must have a record of good scholastic performance and a good knowledge of German (at least level B2). For participants who would like to improve their German skills before beginning the program, we recommend completing an Intensive Course in Wiesbaden. From there, participants will then travel to their respective schools for High School Program.

All students will be housed with carefully selected host families, and will have good connections to school via public transportation. The local organizer from did deutsch-institut will be available to the student during their entire stay to offer help and advice and will keep in regular contact with both, the school and the host family. The bars and restaurants offer very tasty food and you can often watch football while you eat. Sometimes I go for a walk with friends on the banks of the Main river, and then we practice what we have learned in German class. 			Since 1990 all diploma exams of did deutsch-institut are under the control of the German Language Society (Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache, GfdS). Together with the GfdS, did deutsch-institut has developed a national and internationally recognized diploma examination.

			The did deutsch-institutes in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich are licensed to administer the examination TestDaF — a university language examination which is required in order to be accepted for study at a German university.

			The quality standards of did deutsch-institutes in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich have been controlled regularly and for many years by EAQUALS — the leading European Association for Quality Language Services.

			Since 1979 did deutsch-institut is a member of the Federation of International Youth Travel Organizations FIYTO. In 2006, FIYTO and the International Student Travel Confederation (ISTC) merged to form the World Youth Student and Educational (WYSE) Travel Confederation, a 550 member organisation representing the global community of youth travel, student travel, cultural exchange and international education specialists.

			ALTO — the Association of Language Travel Organisations is the only premium forum joining leading language travel agents, schools, and national associations into one global community. As a member did deutsch-institut adheres to the ALTO Charter, Members' Guarantees of Quality, and other guidelines issued by the association.
