Nationalfeiertag 3.Oktober Interview with Director of Studies Berlin, Stefan Schenck Students' Corner
21 years of
German Unification

On October 3, 1990, the German Democratic Republic (GDR) officially joined the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). The opening of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989 was the determining factor in this reunification and was a milestone in the history of Germany. The fall of the wall caused the eventual disintegration of the GDR and resulted in reunifying a country that had been divided since 1961. The motto of the official celebration of the national holiday taking place in Bonn this year is Freedom, Unity, Joy.

After that, he taught three years in a residential school in Allgäu and most recently taught adult language courses in Constance. “What I find best is I always have new tasks and also have the opportunity to meet different people from all parts of the world.” Read more

Why Berlin?

Jiri Madl, actor from the Czech Republic: “I knew Berlin already and liked it a lot. I have already lived in New York. There are many nationalities there and many languages – it is similar in Berlin. In addition, the interesting history of east and west really appeals to me. At the present time, Berlin is the center of Europe for artists. I really like to go to Kreuzberg. I am not as interested in the typical tourist attractions as I am in normal, everyday life. Of course, you definitely have to eat a currywurst when you are in Berlin!” Read more
