Christmas markets | GfdS exams 2012 | Interview with Rayemberg Aprigio | Students' Corner
Dear Friend Newsletter in EnglishNewsletter auf Deutsch

The buildings are brightly lit, strings of colorful lights decorate the trees and it smells like chestnuts, cinnamon, spiced wine and roasted almonds: It is winter and the best time to visit the Christmas markets in Germany! Come and discover Christmas concerts, fine handicrafts, culinary specialties and German traditions! The most beautiful Christmas markets can be found here:

Since 1393 the tradition-rich Christmas market has been found in Frankfurt on the marketplace at Römerberg. In contrast, Berlin offers more than 60 Christmas markets. The most well known Christmas market in Hamburg is in front of the city hall and was designed by the director of the Roncalli Circus. The Christmas market on the Marienplatz in the heart of Munich is also beaming with pre-Christmas brilliance.

Advent calendar 2011 In order to ease the waiting before Christmas, you can open the little door on our advent calendar each day from the 1st to the 24th of December and discover a special surprise.

Every day there is an awesome gift certificate – for example, for a free week of courses, a price reduction, free course upgrades and much more – but we don’t want to give them all away... Each gift certificate uncovered is valid only on that particular day. That means, if you want to profit from this offer, keep at it and decide quickly!

Interview with
Rayemberg Aprigio

At the beginning of the year, Rayemberg Aprigio from São Paulo, Brazil came to Germany to the did deutsch-institut headquarters to work with customers from the Portuguese speaking world. One small, but important detail, when he first came to Germany, he could not speak a word of German! So it was obvious that in addition to his full-time position he would take language classes at our own institute, the did deutsch-institut Frankfurt – and with a lot of success! Since then he has reached level C1. Read more

Why Hamburg?

Adrien from Switzerland: “I am learning German because I want to become a translator. I wanted to come to Hamburg because the city, like Berlin, is one of the most important cities for hip-hop in Germany. In addition, I like the architecture in Hamburg, the buildings and the different neighborhoods. Most of all, I like the multicultural atmosphere here and the friendliness of the Germans. There is so much here to see and do. Oh, and by the way, you must not miss the chicken wings at the Downunder! Read more
